Inspired by legendary venues like New York’s Blue Note, London’s Ronnie Scott's we introduce Amsterdam’s Contra: the place to enjoy intimate jazz concerts from your dinner table. A chef's menu is served, accompanied by our wide selection of wines. To keep the balance between the listening experience and sharing the moment, the concert consists of 3 sets of 35-40 minutes, each followed by a break to enjoy your table, your company, and the atmosphere.

This edition we pay homage to the iconic Carmen McRae with Laura Dooge and the OP Trio!

Carmen McRae was a legendary American jazz vocalist and pianist known for her cool style, unique phrasing, and deep emotional connection to lyrics. Born in Harlem in 1920, she was heavily inspired by her mentor Billie Holiday and rose to fame during the 1950s. Over a career spanning decades, she recorded more than 60 albums and became one of the most influential voices in jazz history.

Laura's passion lies with the Great American Songbook, bringing the timeless songs of George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington to the public. In 2019 Laura graduated cum laude from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2022 she was granted a Special Appreciation Award by the jury of the Laren Jazz Award. Over the years, Laura has sung in the BIMHUIS, het Concertgebouw and the Grachtenfestival.
