Contra Amsterdam
Explanation dinner concert: Inspired by legendary jazz clubs like the Blue Note in New York and Ronnie Scotts in London, Contra is now the one and only place in Amsterdam where you can combine mesmerising live music with a haute cuisine dining experience. A dinner ticket comes together with a menu for a set price that will be shared later on, there is also a small amount of tickets available without dinner. The concert will take roughly 2 hours and consist of 3 or 4 short sets with each 15-20 minute breaks in between. The breaks are for the audience to enjoy each others company, the sets are to listen to the music and don’t disturb the concert. Dinner concerts are a concert in the 1st place. If necessary our staff can and will ask people to be attentive of the musicians and the other visitors that are there to enjoy the music.
“Lingela”; A folk/jazz quintet that preserves Lithuanian traditional music by bringing it to the world of modern jazz.
A conversation between two female voices, a trombone, and a rhythm section takes you back to the times, when the deep Lithuanian forests were surrounded by songs and tales about mythical creatures. “Lingela” presents a new way of developing this authentic repertoire using the colors of jazz harmonies and different rhythms. The trombonist/singer and band leader Kamilė Makarevičiūtė brings a new sound inspired by her deep connection to the Lithuanian heritage.
The idea about this project emerged after leaving her country a couple of years ago and has gotten stronger as a response to the recent political events in and around her country. Kamilė and the international musicians that shape this band believe that it is important to keep the tradition alive, especially during these difficult times by bringing people together. Their sound is deeply inspired by performers like GANNA, Merope and Elektroninės Sutartinės.
Band members:
Kamilė Makarevičiūtė - trombone/vocals/arrangement/composition
Rūta Zareckaitė - vocals
Éber González González - drums
Grégoire Kieffer - piano
Søren Juul Christensen - double bass
